After High School I gave up collecting coins about the same time I realized that saying "I kid you not" was really not that cool. I did give my substantial coin collection to my niece, who, being much more clever than myself, probably sold them for like 1 billion dollars.
I went on to get my MS and Ph D degrees at NC State in Biochemistry in 1974 and 1977. As a matter of fact, and here is some boring trivia, I received my Ph D during the same time Bill Van der Vort received his MS around the same time received his MS in Economics at the same University.
After my Ph D, I worked moved to Texas, and worked for Frito Lay developing...are you ready for this...POTATO CHIPS...well, I really did want to give back to the world something, after studying for like 10 years after HS. I mean, nothing like a fresh potato chip to make your day. As another trivia question, which I am sure you will tell your grandkids, I helped develop...you ready for this...that aluminum looking bag, that all chips are now in. After I left Frito Lay, I gave up all my rights to this bag,and everyone except me became rich ...I think I see a pattern here!
I went on to the Pharmaceutical Industry, worked in Texas for Alcon Labs and then in 1990 moved to Belgium to work for a company called Smithkline Beecham, now called Glaxo Smithkline to help the European companies understand the USA way of doing things, so to speak. This was an English company, so they wanted me in Europe. I went there "for one year", to run their European operations and ended up staying in Europe for 16 years now.
I ended up moving to England, then Paris, France and finally joined a company called sanofi-aventis in Paris, France and Frankfurt, Germany. So now I am Worldwide Quality VP for sanofi-aventis with offices in Paris, Germany and Bridgewater, NJ (Thank goodness!!). So I do get back to the USA at least 6 times per year (Another Thank goodness!). When in the USA, I usually end up visiting Mom in NJ, who is still alive and doing well, my brother Rudi (Wayne Valley class of 1965, who now lives in Florida, and is STILL better looking than I am, although I think that I am still cuter) and eat lots of American steaks and hamburgers. I make it back to Wayne during all of these visits, since my Step-Mother still lives (at least until March of this year) at 26 Prospect Road. Unfortunately, the home has now been sold, and she is moving to California. I am now a permanent resident in Germany, but I am still a true American, which will never change. I usually travel to Paris once a week, which is a pain in the butt, but helps when it comes to air-miles.
I still play soccer, at least 2 times a week, and am not bad, considering my age and annual beer consumption. Also play tennis...and also work sometimes.
